Normally “Keeping up with the Joneses” is a phrase encouraging everyone to buy the newest and best material possessions that you’re neighbors already own, but in Patchogue, it means none of that. Jones Beach Park, a 6.5 mile-wide immaculate pearly white sandy beach is a quick and easy 40 minutes away from Patchogue and New Village.
Roughly six to eight million people visit the calming park where you can do anything from mini golf to surf, to fishing and stand-up paddle boarding. For those who aren’t too keen on the ocean, there is also a pool and the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center. There are plenty of food vendors and the park’s facilities are perfect for families of all sizes.
And of course, there is also the immaculate Nikon at Jones Beach Theater. Located in Wantagh, the concert venue that’s shaped like a shuttlecock in badminton rests right on the water, so seeing Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, or Wiz Khalifa feels like you’re watching your favorite artists on a floaty. That swaying light as a feather feeling also might have something to do with the second-hand smoke you’re probably inhaling.
There are always top-notch acts at the 15,000-seat theater with John Mayer, Jimmy Buffet, making an appearance in late August and the Allman Brothers and Depeche Mode in early September. The earliest performers at Jones Beach that was opened in 1952 were actually transported to the venue by boat so the musicians could explore the pristine scenery. The park’s website states that there hours are subject to change but generally during the summer they are open from 9-7.
