Fall Biking in Greater Patchogue

It’s the perfect time of the season to get outdoors and take in the beautiful fall scenery in the greater Patchogue area. To get a workout in while taking in the fall foliage, consider going for a bike rides at one of the local parks near the New Village. If you don’t know where to start, we have some suggestions for you below.

Heckscher State Park- Located about 20 minutes west of New Village, Heckscher State Park offers visitors to a number of activities to partake in on the park’s grounds. With four miles of paved, the multi-use trails are great for taking a stroll or riding your bike. While there, enjoy the beautiful views of the Great South Bay and Fire Island. There are also numerous picnic areas in the park so be sure to pack a lunch or snack for your break.

Connetquot River State Park Preserve - Only a 10-minute drive from New Village in the town of Bohemia, Connetqout River State Park is another great option to discover new biking and hiking trails. The preserve offers a three mile, paved loop that offers beautiful views of the river, wooded areas, and local wildlife.  While on the grounds, you can also explore the preserve’s restored Hunting Lodge, which was often frequented by the Roosevelt’s and the Vanderbilt’s in the early 1900s.

Cathedral Pines County Park – Although higher elevation is a bit challenging to find on Long Island, the biking course at Cathedral Pines County Park offers some elevation changes rather than your usual flat-surface bike loop. The course offers several optional hills, though much of the park is flat, wooded area. The course is 7.5 miles long if you choose to ride the hills, or 6 miles if you’d like to stick with the shorter route.
