Fall Day Trips in the Tri-state Area

Now that we are in the true fall season, there's so better time to get out of the city for a fun weekend getaway. Spend the day outdoors exploring the beautiful autumn sites that the tri-state area has to offer. If you're not sure where exactly to travel, check out some of the destinations below for some inspiration.

Lake Mohonk, NY- Located about two hours north of the city, Lake Mohonk is a perfect day getaway for those who want to spend some time outside in the crisp fall air. Settled in the southern Catskill Mountains, Lake Mohonk offers various hiking trails and beautiful views of the lake and fall foliage. If you want to spend the night, the Mohonk Mountain House offers luxurious accommodations and gourmet dining.

Essex, CT- Head up to Essex, Connecticut to see the state’s impressive scenery by both land and sea. The Essex Steam Train and Riverboat makes daily trips into the Connecticut River Valley, traversing scenic landscapes, including local historic sights like the Gillette Castle and Goodspeed Opera House.

Pocono Mountains, Bushkill, PA- To truly take in the beauty of the fall season, head to Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania to visit the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area. With a sprawling 70,000 acres wrapping around the Delaware River, this park is perfect for a picturesque hike along the river with a backdrop of vibrant fall colors. Afterwards, head over to nearby Stroudsburg to visit RAW Urban Winery and Hard Cidery to sample their wines and ciders.
