It’s Labor Day Weekend on Long Island, meaning that there
are plenty of activities and events happening to celebrate the unofficial last
weekend of summer. And better yet, it’s a three-day weekend! If you need some
inspiration for how to spend your time, check out some events featured below.
Labor Day Parties
Many of the local bars and pubs in Patchogue are hosting
parties to celebrate the unofficial end of the summer season. Make a trip to
the Dublin Deck to celebrate Clam Jam, their 18th Annual Season
Ending Party. They’ll be over 1,000 free clams served starting at 3pm to
celebrate the occasion. You can also head over to Off Key Tikki on Saturday for
the Big Dance Band, and Sunday for BreezeLive!
Featuring lie calypso and reggae bands.
Beach Activities
Head to the beach to take advantage of one of the last
weekends of summer sun. If you chose to go to Fire Island, the Annual
Sand Creation Contest is taking place this weekend on Saturday, August 3rd
and Sunday August 4th from 10am-3pm. To partake in the fun of this
theme, National Parks, meet at the Fire Island National Seashore Wilderness
Visitor Center at the start time of the event.
Shinnecock Powwow
Head out East to Southampton to experience the Shinnecock
Powwow, an event that around once a year at the end of the summer season. Tribal
dances, crafts, storytelling, native foods, and dance and drum competitions are
all a part of what makes this event on the Shinnecock Reservation truly unique.
Adult entry is $15, and Grand Entry begins Friday at 7pm, and runs Saturday,
Sunday and Monday from 12:30pm-night.
