This weekend on Saturday, June 11th, the 148th
Belmont Stakes will be taking place at Belmont Park! Though witnessing the win
for a Triple Crown is not possible this year, you can still revel in the
excitement of the Belmont Stakes, whether you attend the race, attend a viewing
party, or watch from the comfort of your home.
Getting to the Race
From Patchogue, Belmont Park is about an hour away, and this
is not accounting for traffic or time spent finding parking. Your best bet for
getting to the park on Stakes day may be to take public transportation. LIRR
offers direct service to Belmont Park, though you’ll need to transfer at
Jamaica Station from the Patchogue line. General admission tickets are $25,
though it is recommended to purchase tickets prior to the event date. Once in
the park, enjoy your time by placing wagers, enjoying some food and drinks, and
taking in the excitement of the race with friends!
Watch at a Nearby Bar
If you’re trying to avoid traveling to Belmont but still
want to be a part of the lively race-viewing atmosphere, check out the bar
scene in the Patchogue area. The
Village Idiot on Main Street will be screening the race and you can enjoy
food and drink specials while you watch. You can also head over to Public House 49 for some Belmont
Stakes fun. While you watch, enjoy a Meatball Flatbread Pizza, or some Homemade
Mac and Cheese- some favorite bites among Yelpers!
Hosting at Home
If you’re not really into viewing the race in person and
dealing with the massive crowds, consider hosting a viewing party at home.
Encourage guests to wear festive hats and derby attire, and serve food and
drinks to pair with the occasion. The
Kentucky Derby may have the Mint Julep, but the signature drink of the Belmont
Stakes is the Belmont Jewel! Check out this foolproof recipe here to serve
up this cocktail that you’ll guests will love.
