Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center Has It All

With movie screenings, film, acting and screen writing classes, guest speakers, ballet and opera concerts, the only thing you can’t do at the Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center in Patchogue, is play mini-golf or maybe pet some wild animals. The all-purpose, all-encompassing Center was co-founded by Catherine Oberg and Campbell Dalglish two filmmakers from New York City, and the 65-seat Plaza Cinema was constructed in one of the spaces of the ArtSpace building on Terry Street in the fall of 2011. One of the honorary trustees at the Center is esteemed actress Isabella Rossellini.

The cinema holds screenings of popular independent and documentary films like Before Midnight, I’m So Excited, and The Hunt. Also at the center are renowned ballet and opera performances including Notre-Dame de Paris and Aida. Tickets are usually never more than $20 so you can spend all of your hard-earned money on the popcorn at the concession stand.

The Center also offers amazing in depth classes on almost every subject in film and media production, including fun and informative acting classes on techniques and Shakespeare. One of the main goals of the Center is to make media literacy as accessible for people of all walks of life. As a non-profit organization, the Plaza relies on donations from grants from individuals and the government, and they are always looking for volunteers to help with concessions.
