Excellent Excursion to the East – Montauk

You’re probably really happy to chill out in your state-of-the-art New Village apartment most of the time, but even the most serious homebodies need to get out every once in a while. And no, we don’t mean a short distance grocery run for a nice bag of Doritos. How about taking a cool little trip to the very tip of Long Island? We’re talking Montauk people, and it’s the place to be!

Montauk gets its name from the Montaukett tribe (Alqonquian-speaking) that originally inhabited the region. Located all the way out on South Fork, it’s a super little hamlet in Suffolk County’s East Hampton region. While it may look like a long drive on a map, it’s actually about 1.5 hours away from Patchogue. It was previously used as an Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard base, which gave it a certain amount of notoriety.

Known as a tourist hot spot, Montauk is surrounded by six state parks where visitors can engage in plenty of fishing, a bunch of awesome water sports, and some general R&R. Montauk Manor, the luxury resort hotel - which you should totally visit given the opportunity - was actually created as part of a project to make Montauk the “Miami Beach of the North”. There is also a golf course, a yacht club, and movie theater. It is also home to the 4th oldest functioning lighthouse in the country. What else could you ask for?

It is absolutely perfect for a day trip at any point in the year. Known to have an oceanic/humid subtropical climate, it has warmer winters that those experienced on the mainland and cooler summers when the city is blistering hot. The area is considered to be a beach resort, which essentially means that there are plenty of areas to eat well, sleep tight and party hard. So, when are you going? And don’t forget to send us pictures when you return!
