The Nutcracker at Patchogue Theatre!

When the temperature drops it usually means a few things: it’s time for hot chocolate, the holidays, fewer sports fans taking their shirts off during games, and most importantly, it means the Nutcracker is here.

On December 5th at the historic Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, The Nutcracker Suite was presented by the Ovations Dance Repertory Company. The performances had the unique distinction of being accompanied by a live 25-piece orchestra, and it is the only Nutcracker performance with a live orchestra in Suffolk Country. The Atlantic Wind Symphony brought to life Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable ethereal and dreamy score.
This is the 14th year that the play had been featured at the Patchogue Theatre and it blends exquisite costumes, precise choreography by Orlando Pena and revelatory sets to make the legendary Christmas tale. The Nutcracker Suite opened with at Stahlbaum’s party where an interesting guest, Drosselmeyer, has the power to bring toys to life. Some of the other magical things you will see are giant toy soldiers battling mice, massive enchanted trees, the mythical Land of Snow and the infamous Snow King and Queen.
Act Two featured a trip every child’s dream destination, The Land of the Sweets. The glorious Sugar Plum invites you on a wonderful journey to experience delicious sweets from Candy Canes, Mother Ginger, to Chocolate from Spain to Team from China.
The Nutcracker Suite had been featured in the New York Times where they comment, “Goes far east of the East End in its multicultural approach to the Nutcracker.”

Located near New Village apartments, this is one local holiday event you don't want to miss.
