Charitable Giving During the Holiday Season

There’s something about the holidays that makes you grateful for what you have, but also puts you in the spirit of giving. If you’d like to give back to your local community this December, there are plenty of ways to get involved. Whether you volunteer your time or make a donation, your charity is greatly appreciated.

Toys for Tots

Founded by the U.S. Marine Corps in 1991 as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charity, Toys for Tots is a program that distributes toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children. Although Toys for Tots is a nationally recognized organization, the charitable giving has local impact as the collected toys are distributed in the community where the campaign is conducted. This holiday season, it’s easy to donate toys with the help of Toys for Tots sponsors, Toys R Us, who is accepting toy donations on behalf of the foundation. You can also make a monetary donation to the foundation by clicking here.

United Way of Long Island

As an organization that seeks to advance the common good, United Way of Long Island helps to create opportunities for a better life by focusing on three core initiatives of education, financial stability, and health. This year as part of their 2016 Holiday Wishlist, on behalf of United Way, Patchogue’s Federation of Organizations is organizing a Toy and Clothing Drive. The organization is seeking new and gently used toys for children 5-14 years; individual food baskets; new and gently used clothing for adult men and woman, including coats; personal care and hygiene items. If you could like to donate or get involved, please contact Joanne Bentivegna at jbentivegna@fedoforg.org.
