Fall is here, and that means crisp autumn air and of course; Apple Picking!. Apple
picking is a staple fall activity, especially in New York, and there are several
different orchards close by to Patchogue and New Village that our residents can
choose from.
Prime apple picking season starts now and goes through the
month of October. Here is a list of apple orchards that are about a 30-40
minutes’ drive from New Village of Patchogue.
Harbes Orchard:
Located on Harbes Family Farm in Riverhead, their apple orchard is a 36 minute
drive from us here in Patchogue. They offer 24 different types of apples all
grown on their 15 acres of orchard. You can visit any weekend from 9 am until 6
pm. For a list of the different apple varieties grown on the farm and the best
time to pick your favorite apples, you can look at this handy chart from
their website.
Lewin Farms: Only a
half hour away from New Village, you can visit Lewin Farms in Wading River for
all your fall apple picking adventures! They are open weekends and holidays as
well as select weekdays for Long Island residents to visit. The orchards are
located in Calverton and you can find directions on their website.
Windy Acres Farm:
Also located in Calverton, Windy Acres is another popular apple picking spot
located a half hour from New Village. Their Facebook
page provides all information regarding events, updates and apples! Tractors
and wagon rides bring guests out to their orchards from the main farm, but it
is also walkable as it is a half mile away from the parking lot. Apple picking
will continue as long as there are apples to pick! They are open 9am-6pm most
days, but check their websites or give them a call if you want to make sure.
Seven
Ponds Orchard: Open 7 days a week now through Thanksgiving, Seven Ponds
Orchard is about a 40 minute drive from Patchogue, but well worth the trip!
Their hours are 9 am- 6 pm Monday-Sunday and they offer a variety of apples to
pick! Check their page for updates on what apples are currently available, or
you can always reach out and give them a call. They also provide a wonderful
farmers market offering delicious goods such as pies, donuts, cider and all
your favorite fall treats!
If you don’t mind going for a little adventure and making
the trip further across Long Island, there are more orchards that are still
less than an hour from Patchogue that are great picks for your fall apple
picking fun!
